Legacy Comix is all about promoting our creators, so from time to time, we’ll take them away from work to answer some questions so you can connect with them a little more.
Next up, our Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer John Svedese!
Legacy Comix: What was the first comic you remember reading?
John Svedese: There are a couple books I remember reading as a kid. The ones that stand out for me were Action Comics #657, Green Lantern #5: Return to Oa! And Flash #53 guest appearing Superman. I was big into DC Comics when I was a kid and when I seen Flash and Superman racing on the cover of Flash #53 I almost lost my mind.
Legacy Comix: Who is your guilty pleasure super hero? A character you love that people might not expect.
Svedese: Green Lantern. But only two of them. Hal Jordan and John Stewart, but I tend to lean more towards Hal. I always loved how Lanterns weren’t just on one planet, they were assigned sections of space so their adventures could take them anywhere. Hal Jordan’s history and story lines they put him through were always the best. I loved the detail they put into his character and his transformation into the Spectre.
Legacy Comix: Why are comics special to you?
Svedese: Sometimes after school my parents would take me to the comic book store that was conveniently across the street from the school. So, a couple times a month I would go get new books. Comic books are special to me because I’ve always loved superhero’s and keeping up with the stories you didn’t see in the cartoons. It was a way for me to get deeper into the mythology of the characters and know every detail about the characters I loved.
Legacy Comix: If you could collaborate with any creator, who would it be, why?
Svedese: My dream collaboration would be with Jim Lee. I’m fine with doing inks over Jim’s pencils. And the book would be written by Scott Snyder, his work with Greg Capullo on Batman is amazing.
Legacy Comix: What are your goals for 2022 with Legacy?
Svedese: 2022 is going to be epic! Not only am I growing as an artist myself, but I plan on bringing on some top notch talent to create more stunning books. We want Legacy to be the best indie publisher out there without forgetting about our creators or the fans, so people can expect to see us at signings and conventions.
