Legacy Comix Co-Founder, and Editor-In-Chief Patrick Hickey Jr. sounds off on the current state of the company.
2021 was wild but 2022 has been insane. A successful Kickstarter, the release of over nine print and physical books and licensing deals with a film company and the Bram Stoker Estate…that’s not even half of it.
On the surface- great growth for a first-year company- but I knew we were capable of so much more. It wasn’t a matter of imagining where we could be- it was there. Just not everyone saw it. Not everyone had the same vision. Truth be told- people bailed on us. Some ghosted us after signing contracts. Others took the sexy new way of silent quitting and did that to us.
But by the time the Summer came along- it was obvious to a few more people (besides myself) that we could be in an even better situation. The core team knew we had something special. The pieces were in place for us to make a move to get to where we needed to be and we did so- for the better of the company. It wasn’t easy. But it’s what had to be done. Looking back- it was easily the best thing that could have been done for everyone involved here.
Since then, we’ve added a few writers and artists and put together a Fall selection of books and digital comics, as well as trading cards that I think are our strongest yet. To say that I am proud of this team is a gross understatement. Everyone here right now is more than holding their weight. To each and every one of them- thank you for everything you do and continue to do for this company.
With such positive energy among our team now- the success has been contagious and organic. Since this Summer, we’ve had a ton of signings and had fantastic interactions with so many amazing people. If that wasn’t enough- we’ll have Afrim Gjonbalaj and Steve Cange at New York Comic Con and have podcasts and signings booked a month in advance.
If that all wasn’t enough- we’ve got a few other things in the works that I feel will make the Legacy brand even stronger in the months to come.
For a company that just released its first books five months ago- you can’t really ask for more, right?
Thank you to everyone who continues to support us- in any and every way you can. From a share or like on social media- to purchasing our books- everything counts and everything matters.
We’re on our way- because of you.
Now go have a great weekend at New York Comic Con. If you can’t get there, visit a local comic book shop or even better- check out our shop and go on an adventure 🙂
