As a teenager Brian Michael Bendis was one of my heroes, as well as the artists he’d work with the likes of Michael Avon Oeming, David Mack and Alex Maleev.
The stories here (Daredevil, Ultimate Spidey, Avengers, Sam and Twitch, Mack’s Kabuki and Oeming’s Bastard Samurai as well) shaped me as a reader and a writer for years to come. I find myself often quoting lines from these books still to this day. People think I’m smart. No, I just picked the right people to read.
And while Oeming and Mack still have a huge piece of my reader’s heart (I actually teach Oeming’s Wild Rover in my literature course at Kingsborough Community College) Bendis always impressed me so much because he was so goddamn prolific. I thought sometimes there was clones of him out there.
That work ethic shaped me in my career as a journalist and now as the Editor-In-Chief of Legacy Comix.
In my own way, by editing all of our six series and writing three of them, I’m doing my best Bendis impersonation :p All the while trying to carve my own path.
Simply put, thank you to everyone who embraces my love of comics and helped make all this possible.
